Crowns and bridges
Crowns and bridges are relatively common procedures done in the dental clinic to provide fixed replacement for damaged or missing tooth or teeth. The purpose of providing these is to ensure a patient to enable chewing food with their teeth in full function.
A corwn also called a cap in common terms is a restoration that covers the entire tooth replacing the broken down structure of the tooth. A crown is shaped and sixed similarly to a natural tooth and they contact the opposing tooth in a normal manner and help grind and chew food. Depending on the material chosen it can be very pleasing to look and may be hard to distinguish it from a natural tooth. They are usually made from basic materials such as metals to highly esthetic materials such as polymers and zirconia.
A bridge is method o fixed replacement of missing tooth taking the support of adjacent teeth next to the space of the missing tooth or teeth. They are also made from similar materials and behave similarly except that they replace the missing tooth or teeth depending on how many are missing.
